Philosophy

Dr. Awet Sium is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor in Toronto. With a strong passion for helping individuals achieve optimal health, she provides patientcentered care. Dr. Sium takes an individualized and integrative approach when treating clients, making use of specialized laboratory testing and diagnostics. After taking a detailed patient history, Dr. Sium works with her clients to provide customized treatments. Some therapies include: Personalized nutrition and lifestyle counseling, customized nutritional supplementation and detoxification, natural hormone balancing, and acupuncture.

Dr. Sium has extensive experience in women’s and pediatric health care - from the planning and preparation phases of fertility and postnatal health care to the treatment and prevention of chronic illness. She focuses on the treatment and prevention of chronic fatigue, thyroid health conditions, hormonal imbalances, reproductive concerns (such as PMS and PCOS, polycystic ovarian syndrome), healthy weight loss and management, detoxification and Optimal Aging. Dr. Sium is licensed and certified to perform cosmetic acupuncture, a natural and nonsurgical method of reducing signs of the aging process and rejuvenating the skin.

Dr. Sium obtained a Bachelor of Science, Honours, in Human Biology from the University of Toronto. Upon graduation, she completed a four-year program in Naturopathic Medicine at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) in Toronto, Ontario.

In addition to her busy practice, Dr. Sium is involved in smoking cessation research at the Centre of Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). Passionate about increasing accessibility of naturopathic care in Ontario, she advocates for healthy nutrition, environments and lifestyle choices for families. In the past, Dr. Sium’s work has included offering free naturopathic medical care to individuals and families at the Parkdale Community Health Centre. In 2001, Dr. Sium conducted HIV/AIDS research in Asmara, Eritrea. In 2009, Dr. Sium volunteered her services in Ometepe, Nicaragua as part of the Natural Doctors International initiative (an NGO that promotes global justice through natural medicine).
